The Battenberg cake was created in 1884 to honour the marriage of Princess Victoria and Prince Louis of Battenberg. The ones you find in the shop pale into insignificance when compared with the amazing handmade sort. So we thought it was time to bring back the Battenberg in all her glory. It's a delicious handmade light and moist almond sponge cake, which has been lovingly assembled into a chequerboard effect with the help of apricot jam and then wrapped in a generous amount of marzipan. Our skilled bakers then decorate the marzipan with crimping at the base and a cross hatch on the top. It's certainly fit for royalty.
